>the voices< is the debut 12 inch from bobby and annie. drawing on their experiences as residents at the mint club, uk, the pair have crafted a versatile ep that sits as comfortably in a peak time set as it does on a hazy 6am dance floor. taken from a collection of vocal out-takes the voices have been cleverly obscured through various production techniques and layered around drums and old school analogue synth lines to unique effect. the results are two haunting, hypnotic, yet upbeat dj tools. the title track, >voices<, uses deftly interwoven vocal samples as the focus and driving hook. shuffled percussion takes a back seat amidst a discordant, attention-grabbing synth interlude that harks back to the playful garage sound of90s chicago house. the outcome is dramatic, intense and functional. on the b-side, >loose ends<, is a more rugged affair that gives the bass and drums centre stage. the vocals are pitched and trippily float in and out of the track whilst the familiar sound of fairlight stabs punctuate the groove. the effect is eerie, yet accessible, and rounds off this stunning ep.

hailing from leipzig in germany is an artist whos music has been pricking up many ears across the global underground over the last few years. its hard to put a finger on what it is about kassem mosses productions that make repeated listening a must, but the intricacy, fresh arrangements and musical depth definitely play a part in attracting labels such as the highly respected techno imprint workshop, the legendary soma records and now nonplus are honoured to present his latest 12 inch. a) kassem mosse � >we speak to those< first up on the a-side we have >we speak to those< a 4/4 track of the highest quality that keeps you guessing from start to finish. the rugged and raw kick and bassline immediately set the foundations for the incoming awkward chord stabs whilst reversed beats lazily slur in and out over the main groove giving the track the unnerving feeling that its almost changing tempo. random sound effects and a non conforming arrangement make this track about as predictable as the english summer. one listen to this and youll immediately understand why this artist is getting love from some of the scenes biggest players at the moment. aa) kassem mosse � >hi res< phased drum machine breakbeat patterns and stutered percussion redolent of the early detroit techno uprising give this track an outstanding quality of being able to conjure up the same feelings of hope and optimism for electronic music that the aforementioned era managed to. thought provoking chord progressions take your mind on an excursion to the future and leave you gagging for an extended trip. think skyways, flying cars and towering metal buildings footed with dark abysmal underworlds and youll get the drift. they don t come much deeper than this one

the 3rd release by sonic (resident u60311, airport, thai break) and amused mastermind taste t. this time they cite the commandante che guevara and the top-class remixes leave just one question: which mix shall i play? the a1 starts with an unbelievable earthbound and groovy remix by pier bucci. the chilean artist plays competent with grooves and vocals. the jacuzzi boys delivered an absolute master piece on a2. housy but extremely playful. the most housiest edit on b2 comes from the frankfurt veteran and coccon resident toni rios. hi-strings & house cords û nearly a classic house tune at its best. on b2 the dj discovers the original by taste t & sonic. a techhouse bomb with groovy percussion elements which completes this ep package.
